This Good Practice note documents the community led development of common lands in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan, and how representative institutional systems and equitable norms for benefit distribution considerably enhanced the livelihoods of livestock keepers particularly the poor, landless and families below the poverty line.

Interventions contributed to environment conservation by reducing soil degradation and increasing soil moisture and vegetation which resulted in increased biomass both in quantity and quality. In addition, by increasing milk output per animal, the community led interventions on common land regeneration also contributed to improving the nutritional status of village communities.
