Study Report - Poultry based livelihoods of rural poor
Doc 012 - Poultry based livelihoods of rural poor: Case of Kuroiler in West Bengal - Study Report
One of South Asia Pro-Poor Livestock Policy Programme’s (SA PPLPP) priority areas concerns the smallholder poultry sector and in this regard SA PPLPP assessed the private doorstep delivery of the village hardy bird ‘Kuroiler’ established by the Keggfarms Ltd as unique and worthy of study under Good Practices. As a result an in-depth study on “Poultry based livelihoods of rural poor: case of Kuroiler in West Bengal” was undertaken in second half of the year 2007.
It had both Quantitative and Qualitative components and data was collected from four districts representing different agro-climatic zones namely 24 South Parganas, Jalpaiguri, Murshidabad and East Midnapur. It covered 260 households, 37 mother unit owners and 37 pheriwalas (vendors).
