Burn dry leaves of Diospyros ebenum (ebony), tobacco or powdered bark of Citrus acida (lime) and let the smoke go into the poultry house.

Dipping in Neem Water

Fresh leaves of neem are boiled for 15-20 minutes, the solution is kept overnight and the leaves taken out. The solution is used for dipping the birds, the separated leaves are ground properly to make the paste, which is then applied on the affected parts of the bird.

National Breed Saviour Awards 2011

India, January 2012 - SEVA in association with LIFE Network and with support from the National Biodiversity Authority organized a function in Chennai on 10th January 2012 to give out the National Breed Saviour Awards 2011, recognising individuals and organisations that have worked on the conservation and promotion of indigenous livestock breeds. The function was part of a workshop on Community Conservation of Local Livestock Breeds.

In 2008, SA PPLPP presented Study report on- Poultry based livelihoods of rural poor: Case of Kuroiler in West Bengal - a state in India. Within three months of completion of survey in October 2007, Bird flu broke out in January 2008. SA PPLPP looked upon it as an opportunity to study the Impact of Bird Flu on Poor People’s Poultry related Livelihoods. The presented study is unique as it tracks a sub-set of the households included in 2007 study and examines the impact of the bird flu outbreak and associated control measures on income and nutritional aspects of households involved in the entire chain of Kuroiler distribution and production.

Light Assessment of Livestock Policy Formulation and its Implementation in Orissa (Doc020)

In Orissa assembly approval was accorded to the Livestock Policy in Oct. 2002 and implementation started from 2003‐2004. The Management Board of SA PPLPP felt that understanding the situation in Orissa regarding implementation of Livestock Policy and the views and experiences of the staff of related departments and organizations in this regard would be useful. A light assessment was proposed addressing issues such as: ‐ to what extent has it been implemented, ‐ what are the key strengths, ‐what are the problems that are being faced in implementation.
