Vision and Motto

  • Institutions of different nature within the South Asia region demonstrate that a pro poor livestock production orientation is the key factor in ensuring a better livelihood for the poor and marginalized households.
  • Poor fe/male smallholders and landless Fe/male agricultural workers are empowered, capacitated, organized and able to obtain a substantial share of the increasing livestock product market.
  • The animals are kept as an integral part of the prevailing farming systems and contribute to strengthening sustainable agriculture and livestock production whereby increasing the adaptability of marginal livelihoods to climate changes.
  • The understanding that traditional knowledge systems – all that is not based on Western systems of scientific and technology development - are the strengths of rural communities, is shared among all these institutions. The creation of an enabling environment is logically
centered on recognizing and building upon these traditional knowledge systems.
  • The institutions linked directly and indirectly to the livestock sector are equipped and motivated to provide support, which ensures an enabling environment, allowing the poor fe/male livestock keepers to actively and substantially participate in the growing livestock product market.
  • The examples set and the joint voice established influence State, National, Regional and global policies, actions and practices. The negotiation power developed represents policy recommendations, ideas and facts that are internalized and promoted by the participating
    institutions.
